The Types of Roses Available
There are a variety of roses and some are easier to grow than others. This list is by no means complete, but these are the most common types that are typically included. One of the best places to get additional advice and information would be you nearest greenhouse. Some people are novice gardeners and this is something that should be considered as well.
Landscape Roses: These are excellent for a novice gardener. They require less maintenance and do not succumb to disease easily.
Shrub Roses: Shrub roses are also very disease resistant and they have a long blooming season. These are also good roses for the novice gardener and have beautiful foliage even when they are not in bloom. This name can be somewhat confusing as all roses are technically shrubs. These roses however, are denser and can be excellent for use as screens or hedges for privacy. They also make an excellent border and background for your garden. Many of these roses can grow as high as six feet.
Climbing Roses: These are a different type of rose plant because they are designed to grow up like vines. These are great for growing on trellises and may make an excellent backdrop for a yard or garden. They are also able to grow up buildings. These roses add a dramatic effect to any home or garden. There are several types of climbing roses that you will need to consider with some being more intrusive than others.
Old Garden Roses: These roses have a strong fragrance, so if you have allergies to fragrances then they may not be the best choice for you. They are very disease resistant and will bloom for several months at a time. These roses were recognized in 1867. They are hybrid teas and there are several different classes. The majority of these roses are native to the United States, but a large number of them are from Europe and Asia. These are some of the hardiest roses and are able to withstand a wide variety of weather and climate changes. They do flourish when planted in favorable areas, but they seem to be able to withstand just about anything. The appearance of their blooms seem to signal the arrival of summer.
Modern Rose: These roses are the result of cross breeding with the polyanthus and the hybrid tea. These are long blooming and very fragrant. They are also excellent for flower arrangements.
Miniature Roses: These roses are very unique and they feature a great scent and style. These are excellent indoor roses and do great in the sunniest spots of a home. These roses are very easy to grow and they are great home accents. All they need is a short “bath” each week and last forever. They can grow very large, up to four feet, so it is important to keep this in mind. The large plant will need an ample amount of light for survival. These roses do excellent outdoors as well.

Why do My Roses Have Yellow Leaves?
Question by wynternewbold: Why do My Roses Have Yellow Leaves?
We have been getting a lot of rain and sun and the roses outside are doing really well full of blooms and buds. But when I look at the leaves I see some yellow. Last year was a hard year on them so I just thought that the yellow leaves were explained by the drought conditions. But now I don’t know why the leaves would be yellow and I am worried about a virus. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If leaves have pale mottling, and then turn yellow it may be a bug called leaf-hoppers, they are small jumping and flying insects. If leaves yellow and fall early and are getting enough moisture as you say it may be they need more fertilizer. Is your soil a good rich soil? Ah the joys of roses, the weaklings of the garden! Hope this helps a little

Any rose bushes that are not so thorny?
Question by Baxter D. Wall: Any rose bushes that are not so thorny?
My wife loves rose bushes but I hate them. I just dislike the thorns I have to deal with when pruning them and they seem to just grow like weeds to me. Are there any variety’s of roses that come without thorns or at least not so sharp of thorns. Something that will grow in zone 5 and be OK in a partially shaded area if possible.

What Is A Rose Tree
Few floral creations can measure up to the drama and sheer elegance of a rose tree garden. Also known as rose standards, these cultured little rose trees are the result of delicate grafting and painstaking care to design a miniature tree with a full diadem of roses.Rose trees can be found from three- to 60-feet tall, each more majestic than the last. With their long, thin stems supporting a full canopy of roses on top, the effect is often breathtaking. You may be wondering how florists create such a work of art from flowers that start out with no resemblance to the rose tree.
A rose tree is the result of grafting portions of three rose plants together. The slender, graceful trunk is dissected from a single rose plant; the root structure is grafted to the bottom of the trunk, and the collection of roses is grafted to the top. Out of three separate plants, these floral artisans produce a stunning rose tree. Horticulturists can choose to include just one, or two, or three colors of roses in the crown.
Many rose handlers enjoy grafting the double-decker rose tree, in which a second crown of blooms is placed atop the first crown. The effect is high elegance, especially when florists choose to give the tree a cascade or weeping appearance. The result is elegant, supremely beautiful, but somewhat demanding on the delicate stem or trunk. The stem of the rose tree is always staked to reinforce its support capabilities, and to provide a barrier from the scorching summer sun and the frigid cold winter.
The beautiful rose tree is a favorite centerpiece at the most luxurious weddings and other high society events. They also grace the formal gardens of some of the world’s most elite homes. Landscapers often combine several rose trees in a garden to create the ultimate cultured and cultivated look. Artisans can create spectacular displays using one solid color rose, or they can combine colors and patterns for an entirely different effect. Single-toppers can be staged with double-toppers, or they can use all one size, and whether the décor displays just one rose tree or dozens, the look is spectacular.
Pruning is everything when it comes to keeping a rose tree looking spectacular. The grower can determine the shape and style of the rose tree canopy as they carry out the pruning. Pruning is limited only to the floral top of the tree, never the cane, and is important to keep the rose tree disease-free and keep the weight on the slender stem balanced. The cane needs to be cared for properly to safeguard from those predators that target rose plants.
In the coldest weather, it is best to move your rose tree indoors, if it is in a pot, to keep it safe from freezing. If your rose tree must remain outside, wrap the stem and topsoil in mulch for protection.
Possibly the most demanding of all rose-inspired floral designs, rose trees have adorned cathedrals, estates, castles, and the most extravagant public and private gardens around the world.
