How do I grow roses in a pot?
Question by coffeequeen_72: How do I grow roses in a pot?
I have 3 roses that are in 1.61 gal. containers, I would like to put them in pots. What size pots should I use. I also would like to know what the best soil is to use and how much/often to I water them.
Thanks!
Monica

If yours are miniature types you should be okay. If not you will not get the best result from the plant in a pot unless the pots are quite large, ten gallons maybe. A good mix of peat, clay and sand or a nursery premixed planting medium will suffice. A good granular fertilizer slow feed fertilizer meant just for roses with a systemic insect inhibitor will do. A sunny location, of course.

Roses need full sunlight. You can try the mini roses but unless you have to have a place where you get full sun all day long you will have a hard time keeping them blooming. Get a plant that is blooming–you’ll probably have to get it from a florist– and then you can plant them outside later

What are some secrets to growing really large hybrid tea rose blooms?
Question by Tink: What are some secrets to growing really large hybrid tea rose blooms?
I just started growing roses a couple years ago, and I do get pretty large roses – but I figured a little help couldn’t hurt :)
What do you suggest?
They get fertilized with RoseTone as directed on the bag, and they get a full day of sun…
Not sure how much water they like, but they get a deep watering a couple times a week without wetting the leaves…
Any suggestions?

Sounds good. Cutting off any side buds (when they’re still small) that might compete with the main flower developing at the end of the stem will help direct more energy to the main bud.

How do you take care of a small mini Roses and a strawberry plant if it’s not growing yet?
Question by Rochelle L: How do you take care of a small mini Roses and a strawberry plant if it’s not growing yet?
It has been like almost four weeks since I planted these plants the mini roses and it looks like nothing grew yet like not even a single sprout in either of them. So how do I fix them to grow more? And also to make sure that I do not damage the soil and the seeds together.

Are you in the UK? If so, nothing is going to happen until the weather warms up in about March

Could I use an old aquarium and light to grow roses?
Question by Mary: Could I use an old aquarium and light to grow roses?
I have an old aquarium, and I was wondering if I could use it to grow rose hips. Would the light be enough, I have pretty harsh winters, and I want to grow them inside at first. Would this work???
Best answer:
Answer by pondlady
No, you can’t. Roses need full sun. And they get too big for an aquarium. The hips are what grows after the flowers are finished. I don’t think you would ever get that far.

Question by Jono Valdez: Is an electrician needed to rig a florists indoor grow room? to grow roses and other flowers?
Is an electrician needed to rig a florists indoor grow room? to grow roses and flowers
yes i was wondering if a licensed electrician is needed when setting up lamps of an inoor grow room and the fans and vacum vents as needed for an indoor grow room
i know there are alot of fire hazards and dangers when it comes to setting up an indoor grow room
and was wondering if an electrician is the right man for the job

Answer by Leigh
If your looking at setting up a business then yes. It is better to have a certified person do it and then write a letter saying that the lamps, fans vents and (if you have one) watering system are all safe. To prove to the insurance company you complying with all regulations. Electricity isn’t something to mess with.
The basics are simple but hooking up that much stuff can get a bit more complicated. Besides you’ll have more piece of mind plus if something does go wrong then its not your fault.

How to grow roses begginer help?
Question by Danielsdsd: How to grow roses begginer help?
I want to grow a small amount of roses from my window sill which faces south. I was wondering where I could get the seeds. When to plant them and What size box would I need to grow them in as well as any other advice you could give me.
Best answer:
Answer by sciencegravy
You would need a pretty big box – roses are shrubs, and get 3-4 feet tall and wide, unless they’re the miniature kind.
And you don’t grow them from seeds – you buy either a potted rose bush, or a dormant bare-root plant which you quickly plant and water. I would plant them in the ground. MUCH easier to care for than in a pot.
Though if you insist on a pot, I would use a pot that’s at least 18 inches in all directions, minimum, for a standard rose. The bigger the pot, the better – especially if you live somewhere with cold winters.

when do roses start growing leaves?
Question by k1 fighter: when do roses start growing leaves?
i live in zone 6 .I bought about 10 bare root roses in March. Some are growing leaves and look great, others have no growth at all. I think the rose that arent growing are called candy stripe roses. Are they dead or should I give them more time? The canes are brownish but look green when they have water on them. thanks!
Best answer:
Answer by [IM]PERFECT
Bend and scratch a twig, if it’s bendable- it’s still alive. If the scratch reveals that the twig is still green, it’s still alive.
If it breaks- it’s dead, if it shows brown it’s dead.
