Different Types of Flower Tattoos Have Different Meaning

These days, more and more women are getting tattoos. As more women decide to get tattoos, flower designs continue to rise in popularity. The best thing about flower tattoos is the fact that there are many different colors and types of flowers – providing many different meanings as well. The flowers can mean a few different things, although specific types of flowers such as the rose and the Lilly may have a more specific meaning.

In general, flower tattoos have a connection with nature, bringing up thoughts and images of life and vitality. Anytime we look at a flower, we see the duration of life, simply flowers connect with us in the sense that we both grow. Flowers emerge from the earth and continue to grow on a daily basis. Then, the flowers bloom, knowing that they will later dry up and start to wilt away.

Having a tattoo with a flower brings back the entire process known as life. Keep in mind however, that different colors and flowers on tattoos will symbolize other things as well. White flower tattoos symbolize purity, while red flower tattoos can symbolize a burning passion. There are many colors and designs available, giving plenty of meaning to those desiring flower tattoos.

Roses are the most common flower design for tattoos, symbolizing love. During the turn of the 16th century, roses were tattooed on those who were sentenced to death. If they were to escape from the gallows, the rose tattoo would serve as a symbol to easily recognize them. These days, roses symbolize both love and passion. Roses have long been known as a romantic flower, popular for special occasions with the ones we love.

In the western regions, rose tattoos are a symbol of love and purity. In the Eastern regions however, love and purity are symbolized by a lotus flower. Tattoos that feature lotus flowers also bring a little more meaning to the table. Lotus tattoos are also known to symbolize fortune, peace, beauty, and goodness. Even though roses are the most popular tattoos in North America, Lotus flower tattoos are more common in other regions.

Other examples include the acacia flower tattoo which is the symbol for love and friendship. There are some people with Irish heritage who choose to get tattoos with the flower known as the Bells of Ireland. This flower is well known throughout Ireland, with the tattoo symbolizing good luck. Irish who have this tattoo are known to be lucky, or have an insane trend with luck.

Those who think of themselves as being the perfect lover may want to get a tulip tattooed on their arm. Tattoos with tulips represent passionate love and fame for being a great lover. If you happen to be shy and timid, you may want to go with a violet flower tattoo instead. Violets are common tattoos for those who are shy and timid, and enjoy taking things slow. Those wanting to symbolize wisdom and virtue on the other hand, would be well to get an Iris. Magnolias are also common with flower tattoos, as they symbolize an individual’s love for nature.

Flower tattoos are very common and popular designs these days, giving plenty of meaning behind their beauty. The flowers can be large or small and as bold as you wish them to be. No matter which flower you have decided to use with your tattoo, you can ensure that the flower says the meaning you are looking for.

Lavender Roses ? 3 of the best and their meaning

Lavender roses are usually highly fragrant and there are a number of popular roses in this color range. Some that are worth growing for their beautiful form and fragrance are:

Barbara Streisand – a beautifully scented rose which has large flowers, deep green glossy foliage and grows to 135 cm (4 ½ ft). Apparently when Barbara was first asked about a rose bearing her name she was very picky – she was a rose lover herself and wanted it to have the attributes of an attractive color, large flowers and an exceptional fragrance. This rose satisfies all these and more.

Blue Moon – my favourite lavender rose has the most beautiful rich fragrance and large, high centred flowers that are long lasting. It has deep green foliage that lightly covers the rose plant and it grows 135cm (4 ½ ft).

Fragrant Plum – another of the beautifully scented lavender roses. The large rose blooms look like candelabras sitting on the plant. They are high centred, double flowers that last well on the bush or as a cut flower. It’s a medium to tall growing rose to 150cm (5ft)

Lavender Rose Meaning

Some folk say that lavender flowers are a sign of love at first sight so if you do fall head over heels with someone straight away, giving them a bunch of lavender roses could be a delightful way to let them know that.

Colours in the purple range, like lavender, also have a spiritual quality to them.  The colour purple represents spirituality, mysticism, royalty and inner wisdom and in the same way folk wear amethyst crystals and have them in their environment for healing and to raise the energy of the room, you can pick some of your beautiful lavender roses and have them in your environment for a similar effect.

Sitting here wasted and wounded At this old piano Trying hard to capture The moment this morning I don’t know ‘Cause a bottle of vodka Is still lodged in my head And some blonde gave me nightmares I think that she’s still in my bed As I dream about movies They won’t make of me when I’m dead With an ironclad fist I wake up and French kiss the morning While some marching band keeps Its own beat in my head While we’re talking About all of the things that I long to believe About love and the truth and What you mean to me And the truth is baby you’re all that I need I want to lay you down in a bed of roses For tonite I sleep on a bed of nails I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is And lay you down on a bed of roses Well I’m so far away That each step that I take is on my way home A king’s ransom in dimes I’d given each night Just to see through this payphone Still I run out of time Or it’s hard to get through Till the bird on the wire flies me back to you I’ll just close my eyes and whisper, Baby blind love is true I want to lay you down in a bed of roses For tonite I sleep on a bed of nails I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is And lay you down on a bed of roses The hotel bar hangover whiskey’s gone dry The barkeeper’s wig’s crooked And she’s giving me the eye I might have said yeah But I laughed so hard I think I died Now as you close your eyes Know I’ll be thinking about you While my mistress she calls me To stand in her spotlight again Tonite I won’t be

The Meaning of Rose Colors

Rose color meanings are based on Greek mythology and historical representations of roses. From Cleopatra’s use of roses for their scent to Aphrodite’s creation of the first rose, red in color as a tribute to lost love, these beautiful flowers were given meaning and value. They are woven into history, poems, plays, painting, and music where they speak to the love and sentiment associated with roses in all their varied colors.

Why is it important to understand the meanings of the various colors?

The gift of a rose is meant to express a sentiment,” I love you”, “I apologize”, “My sympathies”. Each of which is expressed with a distinct color. Let’s look at the various rose color meanings and ways to use them when giving roses as gifts.

White Roses

White petals express innocence, making them the number one flower for weddings. A bride carries white roses as a symbol of her purity. For many, white symbolizes spirituality, making it a good choice for expressions of sympathy and appropriate for funerals. A white rose speaks of honor and respect as well as remembrance, making it a versatile color.

Red Roses

Red petals signify passion and love. Most florists will tell you that red roses are the number one choice for Valentine’s Day giving. Red shows one’s love and nothing says it better than a long stemmed red rose. When red or crimson roses are given as a gift, the giver is sending an indication of his or her love.

Pink Roses

Pink petals, with their soft shades and gentle feeling, have been around forever. This popular color is picked to convey a sense of admiration or affection. People also send pink roses to express sympathy as well as gratitude or to say “thank you”. The dark pink rose is seen as more elegant, its vivid color calls attention to the flower.

Yellow Roses

Yellow petals, with their bright, sunny color, speak of light and sunshine. The meaning of the color yellow, in roses, is to express joy and happiness, making it a natural choice to show friendship. The yellow rose came into popular use after the 18th century and has grown in popularity.

Orange Roses

Orange petals can range in color from a vivid sunset hue to the coral family of oranges. Orange signifies passion and desire – it’s a fiery color. You might not want to give orange roses to a work acquaintance. Orange is a relatively new color for roses, resulting from the combining of red and yellow roses. The meaning of the color may continue to change with time, but for now it’s all about potential romance or burning passion.

Lavender Roses

Lavender petals are such an unusual color that it is considered almost mystical. The color is not readily available everywhere, so the gift of a lavender rose is rare and enchanting. The paler lavender petals have become associated with love at first sight. And the darker purple shades with their opulent rich color, remind us of royalty.

Rose color meanings are typically tied to a single color of roses. While red speaks of love, a bouquet of red roses, mixed with orange roses, and other fall-like foliage can be used for an autumn flower arrangement. When combined, the colors take on different meanings.

A spring grouping of roses in soft tones of pink and white, or maybe pink and lavender no longer represent love, but symbolize the light and hope of spring. Delicate pastel colors can be used for baby showers, or to welcome a new baby. They would be nice for bridal showers too. You can be creative with roses to give meaning to a wide range of events and celebrations.

MJ Blake has been caring for roses for years and has recently decided to share that knowledge with the world. For more information on caring for roses, please visit
